IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. IMAGES SUBMITTED THAT DON’T FOLLOW THE CONTEST RULES WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE EXCLUDED FROM THE CONTEST.
1. DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this Contest, “Organizers”, “we” or “us” mean Superpanoramas.com, Freedom and Life Bt., Viewpoint Multimedia and their partners and associated organizations involved in conducting the Contest. This does not include Sponsors. “Sponsor” means those entities or organizations that support the Contest by offering awards, prizes or other means of support, but don’t participate in the conduct of the Contest. “Participant” or “you” mean anyone who, by submitting an image to the Contest, agrees with and accepts the Contest Rules.
2. THEME AND PURPOSE OF THE CONTEST
The theme of the contest is “European Panorama”. The purpose of this Contest is to use panoramic photographs to show the full view or “panorama” of the many different and diverse places and sights one can find in the European Union today, its rich architecture, culture, natural and man-made environment, unique places, events, sights, its places of history and of modern civilization. The Contest intends to encourage the creation of, or locate existing panoramic photographs taken within the European Union that show something that is unique, special or aesthetic in that country, and suitable to show or represent a piece of that country as part of various publications and exhibitions. The images accepted for this Contest are panoramic images taken in any of the 25 member countries of the European Union. The images can be about any topic, as long as they don’t violate the Contest Rules.
3. NO ENTRY FEE
There is no entry fee for this Contest.
4. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST
The Contest is open to anyone, regardless of citizenship, location, race, color, age or profession. Both professional and amateur photographers can participate. Any Participant may submit as many images to the Contest as they wish.
5. SUBMISSION DEADLINE
The deadline for receiving submissions for the Contest is 31 May 2006, 24:00 Central European Time. The time a submission is received is determined by the time recorded on the server computer on which the Contest’s web site is hosted. Submissions received after this deadline will not be accepted. The Organizers are not responsible for any circumstance, such as file transfer errors, network errors, damaged files, or any other reasons due to which a submission may not arrive in time or not arrive at all, in viewable form, to the server used for the purposes of the Contest, even if it happens due to an error made by the Organizers or any service providers used by them.
6. TYPE OF IMAGES ACCEPTED
Images accepted for this contest are PANORAMIC IMAGES ONLY. For the purposes of this contest the only images that qualify are those where the height to width ratio is at least 2.5:1 (width is at least 2.5 times the height, or height is at least 2.5 times the width). Images that don’t fit into these specifications are automatically excluded from the Contest. There is no limitation as to the date when the images were taken.
7. IMAGE MANIPULATION
Image manipulation (panorama stitching, cropping, retouching, color correction, etc.) is permitted as long as it does not change the content of the original images but only serves the purpose of improving the quality or artistic value of the image. Computer generated images, or images manipulated in a way that their original content is significantly altered are not accepted in the Contest.
8. CONTENT OF THE IMAGES
The images must show something that is aesthetic, unique and/or characteristic of any of the 25 member states of the European Union (for a list of countries, click here). Images that contain violence, pornographic or objectionable content, material that is not owned by and/or are not the original work of the Participant submitting it, materials that violate a person’s or an organization’s rights, illegal content, and images that violate any law in the country of the Participant or in the country the Contest is conducted in are excluded from the Contest.
9. ACCEPTABLE FORMAT AND RESOLUTION OF IMAGES
For an image to qualify for this Contest, the Participant must have an electronic (electronically created or scanned) version of the image with at least 5000 pixels on the longer side, in TIFF or JPG format. If compression is used (such as with the JPG format) it must not be such as to cause significant visible degradation of the image quality. The initial image submitted for pre-qualification purposes must be resized from the original image so that the longer side is exactly 1800 pixels. The initial image must be in JPG format; other formats will not be accepted. If an image is selected as a finalist image, we will notify you via the email address you provided when you submitted the image, and require that you submit the original, high resolution image in TIFF or JPG format. If you fail to submit the high resolution image by the deadline given in the notification email (which will be at least 1 week), the image will be excluded from the Contest and will not be eligible to win prizes.
10. OWNERSHIP OF THE IMAGES SUBMITTED, PROTECTION OF YOUR RIGHTS
The Participant is responsible to ensure that any images submitted are his own original work, his or her exclusive property and that he or she has the right to submit them to the Contest per the Contest Rules. The Participant must not have agreements in force that prevent him or her from submitting the image to the Contest because submitting them would violate existing agreements the Participant entered into in relation to that image. By submitting an image to the Contest, the Participant attests that he is the owner of the image submitted and by submitting it, he or she is not violating any other agreements that may be in place in relation to that image. Any time an image you submitted is used by us in any form, your name as the photographer and copyright owner will be clearly indicated.
11. MODEL RELEASE
If any person is uniquely identifiable on an image submitted, the Participant submitting the image certifies that he has the agreement of that person to be photographed and his photograph published, and when and where required by laws, he has obtained a written Model Release.
12. FORM OF SUBMISSION
The only accepted form of submission of images for this Contest is electronic transfer (upload) to the Contest web site, to the address specified on the Contest web site. Submissions are not accepted by mail, in person or any other means than electronic transfer. In order for an image to qualify in the Contest, the Participant is required to submit adequate information about the image (as required on the Image Submission page) that makes it possible to identify the content and the owner of the image. Images submitted without the data required or with false or incomplete data are excluded from the Contest.
13. HANDLING OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA
In order to conduct the contest, award prizes and protect the intellectual property rights of the owner of images submitted, it is required that each Participant submits some personal data with each image submitted. This includes the Participant’s full name, country of residence, and a valid email address, and may include other data as required for the conduct of the Contest. By submitting an image you agree to receive notifications regarding the contest and other related messages from the Organizers. Any information you provide to us regarding yourself and your work submitted to the contest must be true, accurate and complete. Submitting incomplete, false or misleading information results in disqualification from the Contest. By entering the Contest, you understand that your personal information submitted will be stored by us. Any information you submit will only be used as described in this Contest Rules. NOTE FOR RESIDENTS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION: The computers hosting and serving the European Panorama Contest and Superpanoramas.com are located within the European Union, Canada and the United States. As such, your personal and other information will be stored outside the European Union. By registering and entering the Contest, you consent to this manner of storage of your information.
14. PUBLICATION OF THE CONTEST RESULTS
The results of the Contest will be published on the web site of the Contest. Those who win a prize in the Contest will also be notified via the email address they provided when submitting the winning image.
15. RETURNING SUBMISSIONS
Since the Contest is conducted using electronic file transfer and only images in electronic format are accepted, the Organizers will always assume that the Participant is in possession of the original image file(s), and will not return any materials received.
16. PRIZES, RIGHT TO, ACCEPTANCE, AWARDEE'S RESPONSIBILITIES
The prizes awarded in this contest are listed on the Contest web site.
The prizes cannot be redeemed in cash. The Organizers and Sponsors reserve the right to replace any prize with another similar item of the same or higher value if the prize offered is not available for any reason.
To receive a prize offered in the Contest the Participant:
A. Must have submitted an image that the Contest Judges selected for a prize
B. Must fully comply with the Contest Rules
C. Must be reachable via the email address he or she provided when submitting the image so that he can be notified of his or her prize.
Any shipping costs, taxes, or any other expenses associated with accepting the prize are the responsibility of the person receiving it. The Organizers are not responsible for prizes or awards that cannot be delivered due to missing, incorrect or incomplete information provided by a Participant.
17. UNCLAIMED PRIZES
Each person selected for a prize will be notified and given a period of 15 (fifteen) days to claim his/her prize. Any prize unclaimed 15 days after the winner was notified is considered to be forfeited. If this happens, the next qualified Participant who did not receive a prize will move up to replace the awardee who did not claim his/her prize, and he or she will receive the prize. Claiming the prize is done by replying to the notification email and providing a valid mailing address (not a P.O. box) to ship the prize to. The prizes will be considered final and sent to the winners once all prizes are claimed. In any case, all prizes will be awarded.
18. RIGHTS GRANTED, USAGE
By submitting an image to the Contest, the participant agrees that the Organizers may use the image for the purposes of the Contest and in their promotional materials and publications, whether printed or electronic, as well as part of exhibitions, in any country. This does not affect the rights of the owner of the work who retains full rights to his work.
19. JURY
The jury will consist of respected professional photographers from North America and Europe. The decisions of the Jury are final.
20. DISQUALIFICATION
Disqualification of an image does not automatically disqualify other images from that photographer, but if the Organizers or the Jury believe that a contestant severely or intentionally violated the contest rules, or his submissions or behavior are unacceptable or contrary to the purposes or spirit of the Contest, they can, at their own discretion, decide to ban that contestant entirely from the contest, including all of his/her submissions.
21. ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPANTS
The Organizers may, if they wish, offer other opportunities to a Participant, to publish or sell his or her images on a commercial basis. Any such offer would be outside this Contest and would be based on a separate agreement. A Participant is not required to participate in such offers. This kind of opportunity is only offered to Participants who submit exceptional work that the Organizers see fit for commercial use.
22. JURISDITCION
This Contest is conducted in accordance with the laws of the state of Hungary.

You can always contact the Organizers of the Contest using the email addresses provided on the “Contact” page of the Contest web site. They will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding the Contest.
24. LANGUAGE
The official languages of the Contest are English and Hungarian. The Organizers may, on a best effort basis, use any other language they speak to communicate with participants who don’t speak any of the official languages of the Contest, but are not required to do so. The Organizers are not responsible for any loss, damage or disadvantage to a Participant that stems from misunderstanding the information published or any communications regarding the Contest.
25. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Acceptance of the Contest Rule is a prerequisite to entering the Contest. By submitting an image to the Contest, the participant acknowledges that he has read, understood, and agrees with the Contest Rules. The Participant also acknowledges that the Organizers, their suppliers and Sponsors cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to a Participant that may arise in relation to this Contest.
